How to plan your Valentine meal - some ideas

When you are looking out for some Valentine recipes, plan to keep the meal flavorful and not too heavy. Overeating will most likely leave you feeling lethargic rather than excited. While planning the meal it helps to know the likes and dislikes of your Valentine and set a menu in which everything can be precooked and plated and kept ready. The last thing before service should be to heat up the meal (that too in a no sweat manner by using the microwave) and present it while still warm and fragrant.

Some ideas for Valentine recipes:
The smell of good quality basmati is a great appetizer. How about a moulded rice dish (you guessed it, get a heart shaped mould), which could be in a two layers with one coloured pink achieved with the addition of a little beetroot juice. If you want to impress, stick a few real roses in the center and present it as a savoury cake. Beetroot aur mewa pulao is a good example.

Go for heart shaped croutons in the soup (heart shaped cookie cutters, bless them) and canapés can be served grilled topped with cheese that has undergone the cutter treatment too. A pasta salad with red, yellow and green capsicums cut with the ‘very busy’ heart shaped cookie cutter is an attractive sight. Finish off with a heart shaped dessert like mousse or a rich cream cake. Dal Soup with Tomato has heart shaped croutons, take a look!

Strawberries can play a great role on the 14th of February. They are symbolic of being associated with the heart besides being aphrodisiacal too. Thankfully February is the season of strawberries and you could serve them chilled with champagne or any good fruity wine. If you choose to drink, keep the amount of alcohol to a minimum (a glass or two of wine or champagne). Excessive alcohol can make you drowsy. No matter what drink you serve, dip the rim of any stemmed glass into a shallow dish of strawberry or raspberry crush and follow up with a dip into a dish of powdered sugar – you will see a gorgeous strawberry coloured rim.

Strawberries look good half dipped in chocolate and as the latter too has aphrodisiacal properties the combination is just perfect. Heart shaped, soft centered chocolates are flooding the markets so might as well get a box home for the occasion. There is nothing like overdoing the whole thing because remember tomorrow is just another day. Here we have for an easy way to do Chocolate Dipped Strawberries.

Well, from heart shaped cushions thrown around, to heart shaped balloons that please, Valentine’s Day is a hearty day and life seems so much rosier….with our constant supply of Valentine recipes!
